African Patchwork Quilt

Draw on construction paper paper a design for a patchwork quilt that portrays the social organization and culture of African societies. Squares of the quilt, also made of construction paper, should reflect an important cultural value from an African society, such as familial or artistic traditions. Squares can consist of visual images, text, or a combination of both.

It should look similar to a sequence map or storyboard.

Philosophy Essay

Choose one of the Greek/Hellenistic philosophies below. Explain what the philosophy is about and also explain how you would use it in your life today. (1 page) - AP Students must write 2 pages minimum.

1. Socratic Method (pages 130-131 in textbook) - Asking "Why?" to questions you have, until you get a real answer. Sometimes this requires questioning authority. Do not ask hypothetical questions (Why are we here? Why is the sky blue?).

2. Plato's Republic (pages 131-132 in textbook) - If you were the President of the U.S., school board superintendent, governor of Florida... how would you run it? What would you change?

3. Aristotle's The Mean (page 132 in textbook) - Live life in the midpoint of good and bad. There's a fine line between studying and partying, don't do too much of either. Study too much-you'll wish you had fun while you're young. Party too much- you'll wish you studied more to get the job you wanted.

4. Stoicism (page 143 in textbook)- Don't show emotion, sometimes people will take advantage of you. Keep a "poker face" and don't show people your cards. Don't let your emotions get the best of you.

5. Epicureanism (age 143 in textbook)- What gives you pleasure must be good, what brings you pain, is bad. Sounds great!! But can too much of a good thing be bad? What do you think?

Storyboard about Israel

Athenian Floor Plan

The typical Athenian house had 2 main rooms and several smaller rooms built around a central courtyard. One main room was for dining and the other was for work. The courtyard was for landscaping.

Your assignment is to build a house floor plan, similar to that of ancient Athens, but updated to resemble a house in today's world.

Use symbols for doors, windows, sinks... as if you were looking down on the object. Look at the attached floor plan for drawing these objects.
